Steve has lived in Brooklyn New York all of his life. The same streets, the same part of town, the same everything. His father died when he was young of cancer and it had been just him and his mom since. She's a nurse at a local hospital in the Pediatric department and spends all day taking care of sick children and teens and bringing smiles and comfort to those that need it. When he'd grown up he'd started renting an apartment just four blocks from her. Close enough to help if needed and yet far enough away to feel like he was a 'real' adult. At least by his own standards. He's pretty sure his ma would have loved him to stay home forever.

After he'd finished school Steve had taken some of the money left to him by his father and used it to put a down payment on a building just two blocks from his apartment. He converted it into a little corner bakery/cafe and hired a few friends to help him run it. Fast-forward almost seven years and he's got a fully viable business that allows him to hire some students to work part time as well as sponsor a few local kids sports teams.

'Hot Crossed Buns' is his pride and joy and he loves working as much as he can. Granted some aspects of business are better than others. He's got people for the financial side of things now, his friend Natasha is an excellent book keeper and makes sure they're spending profitably. Steve handles almost all of the baking while his friend Sam and Natasha's boyfriend, Clint, handle the coffee and drinks side of things. The coffee bar has only been around for the past three years or so but it's quickly becoming a large part of their income.

Today seems like any other day, he's making a batch of blackberry scones, apron and arms covered in a fine dusting of flour as he carries two trays from the back kitchen to the oven behind the counter. It had been Nat's idea to put the convection oven in the front of the bakery that way the smells of the quicker pastries could carry to the patrons and those walking the streets.

He'd just shut the oven door and turned the timer on when he heard the bell above the door jingle indicating someone had just entered. He turns and goes to greet the customer when his tongue gets glued to the top of his mouth and he finds himself instantly smitten by the brunette man walking across the floor towards the counter.

Steve grips Bucky tight around his waist as he helps him walk out of the dilapidated castle he's been held prisoner in. Natasha, Sam, and Tony are running interference so they can escape to the quinjet.

"This is becoming a bad habit Buck." Steve teases lightly as he rounds the corner and uses his shield to knock out two oncoming combatants. Vampires. God he hates them and what they're doing to the world.

"Come on, this way. We're almost there." He says as he half carries, half drags him the last little bit and then they're safer. They're in the jet and minutes later the others are there and they're in the air.

"Come on, Let's get you checked out." He says leading him to a medical bunk in the back.

Steve smirked over his shoulder at Brock Rumlow before he turned back and strode into the room. He heard the door lock behind him and knew they were alone for the time being. He let his eyes fall on the man strapped to a chair with vibranium cuffs. Captain America. Or as he knew him better, Bucky Barnes. His once best friend.

Steve tilts his head slightly and offers the other a small smirk. "Long time no see, Buck." He says folding his arms across his chest as he leaned back against the wall. Steve had been inducted into HYDRA back during the war. Faked his death and disappeared. He took over where Schmidt had failed, he wanted to see the world safe even if that meant from itself. He didn't think of himself as the bad guy even, everyone else was just misguided. They didn't really understand what they really needed and it was up to him and his men to make sure they were all taken care of.

But SHIELD was a pain in his ass, and Captain America was their little show runner. It's taken him years, but finally Steve has managed to capture him. "You know, I loved you once. But then you abandoned me...so I decided I'd just do it all on my own."

Of course, Bucky had done no such thing. He hadn't abandoned Steve, he hadn't done anything at all except take care of him before the serum and try to support him afterwards. But the serum had some unforeseen side-effects. It made him paranoid...it made it harder for him to discern dreams from reality and he'd dreamed that Bucky and Peggy had told him they were getting married and leaving him It hadn't happened, but he's thought it had and when he'd seen the two the next morning working on a mission trajectory he'd decided then and there he was leaving and never coming back. If they wanted him gone, then he would go. So he 'fell'. He was lost and a casualty of war.

He's been behind the scenes the whole time. From the end of WWII till present day. He's known as a ghost, The Winter Captain. No one knows his name or what he really looks like except Bucky now. Bucky who's getting his first look at the other man for the first time in almost 80 years.

Well this entire situation didn't go even half the way it was supposed to go. First, their cover was blown pretty much from the moment they arrived, second, enemy fire pinned them both down and Clint got hit. They managed to succeed in their mission but at cost. Clint was injured and their comms were destroyed so no exit strategy and no way to call for help.

It was cold and pouring rain outside and it took maybe thirty minutes for Steve to find them a safe place to stay, one of Clint and Natasha's old hidaways that Clint was able to direct him too.

Steve set Clint on the bed and then went in search of first aid supplies.

"Alright, Barton, this is going to hurt," He says gently as he begins to tug away the others tack gear to examine the wound.

History: https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Captain_America

Does your character have any close ties to existing canon characters?
Bucky Barnes - Best friend in the whole wild world
Tony Stark - dear friend even if Tony might not think so / fellow Avenger
Natasha Romanoff - Sister figure / fellow Avenger
Groot - Colleague / fellow Avenger
Jemma Simmons - as she was a SHIELD employee I believe he would, at least, know of who she is.
Thor - Friend / fellow Avenger
Shuri - Friend / fellow Avenger
Peter Parker - son/little brother figure / fellow Avenger

Theoretically he might know Christine Palmer, but I don't know for sure.

Why do you think your character would work in this setting?
Lots of his friends and family are here in town and he is very protective and invested in them. He wants to settle down, to live a little bit and enjoy his time.

How do you plan to expand their CR?
Steve is friendly and always willing to help anyone with anything. He cares deeply about those around him and would be very happy to lend a hand whenever needed. I would love to expand on the existing CR he has with characters from his own world, but also with new people. He wants to meet everyone and get to know them.

What will your character do for work?

With Bucky on his farm, possibly as a sheriff's deputy/volunteer firefighter. Might teach with Diana in the arena..could teach history at school if needed.

I'm not entirely sure why I'm writing this all down. Sam said it might help a little with the 'survivor's guilt' I feel, but I'm not entirely sure that's accurate. Then again, he's been counseling war vets for years so maybe he does know what he's talking about.

Anyway, I guess everything started over 100 years ago chronologically speaking, but for me it's been less than 40. I was frozen in the Atlantic Ocean for 70 years or so, so I missed all of that time. I was a sick kid, in and out of hospitals my whole life. I never really knew my dad, and my ma, she had to do everything just to make sure I'd survive whatever illness I'd pick up. She worked in the TB ward because it paid more money, but then she got sick...she got it too. I wasn't allowed to see her, Bucky had to relay my message to her and hers to me. I was 15 when she died. It should have been me.

Bucky took me in, we got a place together. He spent everything to keep a roof over our heads and some meager scraps in out belly. He did more for me than I was ever able to do for him. And then the war started and he was drafted.

Gone.

I wished it had been me.

I don't want to think about this anymore...I'm going to stop here for now.
Until next time.
